Is tooth decay just a surface issue?
Yes & No. If you eat a diet high in processed food and sugar, it will not help. But you can be eating well and still be having trouble with your teeth. It is also an internal issue. How strong are your teeth? Is the calcium you are taking or ingesting from your food actually getting to your teeth?
What is missing?
Your body needs both vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 in order for your calcium to get sent to your jaw and teeth. Lower vitamin K2 have been found in people with greater bleeding, deeper pockets and more bone demineralization. If you are not getting enough of either of vitamin D3 or vitamin K2, the calcium will not get where it needs to go (this includes your bones as well).
How can you build stronger teeth?
Food is one of the ways increase your vitamin K2. Natto, aged cheeses like Gouda, pastured egg yolks and grass fed organ meats are the richest natural sources. Since these are not all supper common in our diets, you will probably find that you need a good quality supplement to get enough. Sunshine can increase your vitamin D3, but are you getting enough (especially as daylight hours get shorter)? In the winter, it can be wise to take a good quality vitamin D/K supplement (like Biotic Research - Bio DK Caps or Mulsion that we sell through our clinic). This is in addition to taking a good quality multi-mineral or Calcium/Magnesium supplement.
